My name is Judith Nafula, and I want to share with you the story of my younger self—the struggles I faced, the lessons I learned, and how I overcame challenges despite coming from a poor background.
I grew up in a family that did not have much. From a young age, I learned that life demanded courage, patience, and hard work. School was a dream that seemed out of reach because my family could not afford it, and I often felt the weight of disappointment. Yet I knew I had to find another way to learn and grow.
As a young woman, survival meant hard work. I took on labor in the farms far from home. The work was long, exhausting, and the pay was little, but it taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of earning my own living. I realized that even with limited opportunities, determination could create small victories.
Returning home, I focused on farming and small businesses, making the best of what I had. Life taught me that you don’t need wealth to work hard, and you don’t need privilege to succeed. Every small step I took became proof that persistence and faith could overcome scarcity.
Through the struggles, I learned that challenges could be met with discipline, patience, and focus. Even when life seemed heavy, I discovered that perseverance and hard work could turn difficulties into opportunities.
To my younger self, and to anyone facing hardship today: “Never let lack define you. Work hard, stay strong, and trust that each step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to overcoming your struggles.”
With love and gratitude,
Your future self,
Judith Nafula
