My Younger Self Series – Sirito

Your story is not defined by the struggles you face today, but by the courage you show while overcoming them

The Journey of Patience, Hard Work and Resilience.

Dear Younger Self,

I know the road ahead will not always be easy, but I want you to remember one thing: your beginnings do not determine your destination.

I was born and raised in a remote village in Western Kenya, in a humble family where survival was a daily struggle. My parents were peasant farmers who worked tirelessly to provide for us, even when resources were limited. Life taught me from an early age that nothing comes easily, and every opportunity must be valued.

Growing up, I carried dreams bigger than my circumstances. Through determination and sacrifice, I managed to pursue my education and studied Automotive Engineering. It was a journey filled with challenges, but I believed that education would open doors to a better future.

However, after completing my studies, I discovered that having skills and qualifications does not always guarantee opportunities. In Kenya, limited employment opportunities pushed me to choose self-employment and create my own path. The journey of entrepreneurship came with many challenges — lack of capital, limited opportunities, uncertainty, and moments when giving up seemed easier than moving forward.

But every challenge carried a lesson. I learned that success is not built overnight. It requires patience, commitment, courage, and hard work. I learned that sometimes the journey may be slower than expected, but every step forward matters.

To my younger self, I would say:

Do not be ashamed of where you come from. A humble beginning can produce a strong character. Keep learning, keep believing, and never allow challenges to convince you that your dreams are impossible.

Life will test your patience, but those tests will shape your strength. Work hard, remain focused, and trust the process.

With love and gratitude,
Your future self,
Leonard Sirito
